At the April Steering Committee Meeting, each of the Design Team Co-Chairs presented an institution specific vision statement for the committee’s review. Having been received favorably by the Steering Committee, it was confirmed that the success of this unprecedented campus wide collaboration is rooted in the belief that the power of the work these leaders could do together is greater than the work they could do individually.
Leaders from across the Texas Medical Center came together for a two-day retreat at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston to forge a new vision for the Texas Medical Center. Throughout the retreat, there was overwhelming support for collaboration around five key programmatic areas: Clinical Research, Genomics, Health Policy, Innovation, and Regenerative Medicine. Over 200 TMC community leaders were able to attend and participate in our strategic retreat.

Multi-institutional initiatives, such as the Broad Institute and the NY Genome Institute, are creating a new paradigm. A similar initiative across TMC would be beneficial to member institutions, Houston, and Texas.
In March, the Texas Medical Center announced the creation of five Design Teams each comprised of leaders from across the Texas Medical Center member institutions. These five teams, focused specifically on Clinical Research, Genomics, Health Policy, Innovation, and Regenerative Medicine, have been tasked with articulating a bold new vision for the future of the Texas Medical Center.
